In Depth Analysis of Thriller Opening

Mission Impossible Opening Sequence (Action thriller)

Positioning

The positioning in the first scenes of the film is closes ups, and extreme close ups of different shots from throughout the film. After the different shots from throughout the film, the scene starts off with a close up with a picture of a women, then zooms out to show the shot of the inside of a plane, where the main character is.













Lighting
The lighting stays dark in the majority of the scenes, but shows a light over one of the lead characters, giving the idea of a high authority in the film. This links to action thriller as it creates a feel of tension and mystery to the start of the film.






Acting
The acting of the main character in this shot is serious and tense, creating that feel to the movie. It also highlights the sub-genre by having serious acting to create tension.



Costume
The clothing is smart formal, giving a sense of importance to the character, and the business feel to the situation.

Expression
The main character has a serious expression, to tie into the costume and give the idea of importance and status. This links to action thriller as tension is built up.


Setting
The film is set inside a plane at night, in a high quality class, to give the sense of power and money to the audience. By doing this it creates a sense of mystery and tension to the film, as well as to the shot.

Props
A cassette tape is used, creating the sense of mystery to the audience.  There is also a close up shot of a packet of cigarettes and a newspaper.
