Location Evaluation of Thrillers

The use of the empty street shows the psychological element of the Thriller because it shows how empty the character is feeling inside, the use of the snow conveys the characters cold heart and how the character doesn't know who they truly are which in turn helps the narratives continuity. This screenshot is creative because it uses mies-en-scene very clever, the line of footsteps infant of the character conveys the message that the character is after someone, although a minor detail the scene would not be the sae if there were more footprints in the snow. This screenshot is also creative because of the shadows, the use of lighting in the scene creates an almost ominous feeling, this is also shown since the lighting means that it does not reveal what the character looks like. We could use this in our Opening Sequence when character B comes back, this could be one of the first scenes since it helps convey all the right messages about character B.

The staircase also conveys the sub genre because it shows the never-ending search for an answer. The numerous floors and multitudes of doors which could lead to any eventuality fits the psychological thriller genre as it messes with the audiences head the there could be any

Location ideas for opening sequence

This location would work for the opening sequence because although it seems click but this could be a the first scene when character B appears, we could make this work by using shadows since you never see character B's face, this then links in with the psychological thriller sub-genre. However since this picture was taken during the day it doesn't add the sense of mystery wanted for the film location, so we would film this during the night to create suspense and draw in the audience.

This location would also work for the opening sequence because it would allow character A to express herself and forget about her past, this help her to expand her social life making her seem as if she leads a normal life. This location would fit our sub-genre because whilst doing her work something abnormal happens such as she looses control of her hand and she ends up writing "I'm Back", this links with the psycho thriller genre because character A doesn't know what happened and this messes with hers and the audiences heads. This can help foreshadow the events to come.

This is a ladder to go onto a roof. We could use this in our opening sequence to show that when character B first appears to character C this is where character C escapes to in the heat of the moment. However as in the other image this would be taken at night to be seemingly more ominous and blood-curdling, this fits in with the psycho sub-genre because it is hair-raising and would impose this onto the audience as character C is in peril.

Timeline of Titles

There are a total of 14 titles in the 'Intruders' Opening title sequence. The first title is the main actor, this is important as this is the most important character that holds the most power and attracts the audiences attention throught the film. This tends to suggest that the actor wants to have the most publicity. At the end of the title sequence comes the director as they have a key role in producing and creating the production.

The font of the titles is very thin and in capitals and makes it stand-out from part of the film. the way that they have put the font into the scene makes it look more bold and helps the film to flow and get the spooky feel that needs to be presented to the viewer.

Finally comparing this title sequence to se7en the titles in both of the sequences make sure that little is revealed about the actual film making both of the sequences very suitable for the Thriller genre. Although I believe that the opening titles of se7en links very well to the Thriller genre and that the way the titles are put causes the audience to feel disoriented, I believe that 'Intruders' did a better job and made sure that the audience felt confused and ponder what was too happen, therefore making it more effective.

Audience Research

This task was made to make me think about the factors that are influenced by marketing. I learnt that by maximizing the amount of peer feedback given, I could input suggestions to our group that would please the general public as well as still be in the psycho thriller genre. This is then going towards our opening sequence as the feedback given and suggestions presented by my peers have been included in our storyboard, therefore pleasing to our target audience.

Blood Father:
Can fit into any demographic since it includes a variety of different themes. Blood Father probably fits into the mainstream pshychographic because it follows a typical action-thriller narrative.

This helps promote the target audience because its graphology suggests that it is an action-thriller. The close up of Mel Gibson’s face conveys worry, anxiety, and anger, this is then conveyed to the audience, they are then intrigued and want to know more about the film.

The way that the page has been laid out makes it easier for the reader to work their way through the information given.  In the top left hand corner there is a poster for the film and then next to it in the centre of the webpage is the trailer. This makes it very simple for the reader to identify what film it is and then find easy access to what the film is all about.

The Facebook page similarly follows the webpages format. The large font suggests that they want to attract the reader’s attention and draw them in to the page, this continues throughout the Facebook page and so entices the reader more and more until they decide that they want to go watch the film. This technique used by the page designers is very common and so conforms with the mainstream psychographic.
